Holland Home and our Averden construction partners—Integrated Architecture, EV Construction/Dan Vos Construction, and BDR—hosted prospective residents for a behind-the-scenes look at the making of our newest community. We shared insights into the vision, thinking, and planning behind this one-of-a-kind place.
Holland Home Vice President of Sales & Brand Marketing, Michael Loughman, spoke to the group about the goals of building a retirement community unlike any other. Firstly, the Averden needed to be thoughtfully designed with lifestyle at the forefront, grounded in a warm and inviting environment that enhances comfort and belonging. We were also keen on creating beautiful, spacious living options connected to a central activity area, providing residents with an all-inclusive, maintenance-free, and wellness-focused community.
Scott Vyn, Principal at Integrated Architecture, walked attendees through several key factors that they focused on as they went through the design process, with Michael emphasizing considerations that needed to be made to uphold the quality and integrity that Holland Home is known for:
- Designing and building for the four seasons of Michigan
- Incorporating key amenities on-site while supporting the Ada community
- Preserving the natural beauty of the property and integrating sustainable features (green roofs, efficient water usage, EV chargers)
- Including accessible healthcare to serve residents’ needs
- Planning parking for resident convenience
When the Averden was just a seed of an idea, we knew that having the right partners would be essential to bringing our newest community to life in a way that met our high standards. We wanted to align with companies that shared our goals, values, and love for the West Michigan community. Not only does the contingent we chose have extensive experience in senior living and healthcare projects, but they also have deep roots here in West Michigan.
As a locally owned and operated organization ourselves, this mattered. We believe that being part of the community we serve is one of our greatest strengths and enables us to best meet the wants and needs of residents now and in the future. While many other senior living communities use out-of-state contractors, we have made it a priority from the very beginning to keep this project close to home.
The Averden is on track to begin construction toward the end of this year, given that key sales milestones have been reached. The plan is to build out the full community, rather than complete it in phases, and begin moving residents in by mid-2029.
